Why Dobermans?

One of my absolute favorite questions to answer is "Why Dobermans?". Whether it is a friend wondering why my family consists of one of the most stereotyped breeds, a potential buyer inquiring about our breeding practices, a fellow dog handler at a confirmation event, or even a stranger who has seen us training or playing on the field, I am always happy to answer why Dobermans are our chosen breed!

1. Breed Purpose

The Doberman is the only breed to have been specifically bred for personal protection. This specific breeding purpose not only makes the Doberman unique, but is the reason why the Doberman is the best candidate for a companion dog.

In order for the Doberman to succeed in its original purpose and duty as a personal protector, the Doberman must bond deeply with its owner. Without a strong bond, the Doberman would not be able or willing to perform its protection duty with the required determination and enthusiasm.

The bond between Doberman and owner naturally drives the dog to need to protect the owner. This bond often goes as far as the dog being willing to sacrifice its own life for the owner if necessary. The intense bond between Doberman and owner is a characteristic specific to the Doberman breed and is our foremost reason we have chosen the Doberman as our breed of choice.

2. Temperament

Unlike other working breeds, the Doberman needs and thrives on human interaction. This bond between Doberman and owner is the driving force behind the Doberman's overall temperament.

The balanced temperament of the Doberman is our second reason for pursuing this breed. The Doberman is equally affectionate and social while also cautious and protective. With the proper training opportunities, the Doberman can become a well-adjusted canine member of society as well as the protector of its loved ones. The Doberman is able to distinguish between friend and threat. The Doberman is also able to make decisions for him/herself on how to respond to each type of situation. This high level of intelligence makes the Doberman a reliably trustworthy dog.

The Doberman's intelligence makes training come natural and allows for high levels of training to be accomplished. The Doberman is diverse in training opportunities with potential to: participate in Rally or Agility Events, be trained in the protection sport of Schutzhund, become a registered therapy or service dog, learn Search and Rescue (SAR) skills, master how to properly hunt small game or accurately dock dive, or participate in Confirmation Events.

The Doberman is passionate, determined to please, and thrives on praise. The Doberman's greatest pleasure is receiving the attention and affection from its owner. The Doberman's overall dedicated, loving, and attachable personality makes the Doberman a uniquely suited companion dog.

3. Drive

The Doberman is an incredibly driven breed. This drive is what is responsible for their ability to learn advanced skills and to continuously be engaged in performing a job.

The Doberman is happiest when it has a specific job to perform, even if that job is just protecting the house by being aware of what's going on inside and outside of it.

The Doberman's drive is what makes the Doberman a high energy breed. This high energy allows the Doberman to be an excellent running companion, a great retriever to play fetch or frisbee, an impressive hiker and swimmer, and a great candidate for all types of dog sports!

The Doberman's drive is balanced in that the Doberman requires a bout of exercise and then is content to spending the rest of the day relaxing with his/her owner. The balance in drive is our third reason for choosing the Doberman.

4. Elegance

The Doberman is stunning in appearance! The Doberman is beautifully elegant with a level top-line, defined angles, square head, and rich coloring.

The Doberman has a deep chest, lovely bone, strong muscles, and excellent angles. The Doberman has an expressive face, deeply soulful eyes, and attentive ears.

The overall balance of the Doberman makes this breed one of the most beautiful and is our fourth reason for choosing the breed!

5. History

The Doberman's history is rich and unique. From the breed's intended purpose as a personal protector of a mailman to the stereotype of an aggressive and to be feared dog, the history makes for an excellent companion along side the breed.

The diverse history makes the breed interesting and is our fifth reason for choosing the Doberman.

6. Physicality

The physicality of the Doberman makes for a powerful, yet agile dog. The Doberman is well muscled with great bone structure, an impressive jaw, and powerful movement. The Doberman is quick in movement, has excellent endurance, and is incredibly strong.

This physicality of the Doberman allows the breed to perform its intended purpose of personal protection and allows for a dog with lots of potential which is why it is our sixth reason in pursuing the Doberman.

7. Puppyhood

Starting at birth, the Doberman is unique from other breeds. The Doberman puppy is attentive, intelligent, curious, confident, playful, and sometimes even naughty. This combination of traits makes for a puppy who is trainable, mold-able, and more importantly, a joy to raise!

The Doberman puppy forms immediate attachments and the bond between owner and puppy is strong from the start. Raising Doberman puppies is a unique experience with the highest reward of ending with a perfect companion dog like no other!

The unique puppyhood of the Doberman is our last reason for choosing the breed and dedicating our lives to bettering it!

Sonia,

Thank you so much for your interest in our Dobermans! I am so sorry to hear about your aging babies - it is devastating to see them slow down.

For our breeding program, we have had one litter each year for the past three years. My husband and I are planning on increasing to two annual litters soon. Our four Dobermans are our companions and we raise our puppies in our home with constant care and love 24/7.

Our Anastasia & Novella Jr. are finishing their health testing this summer and will be bred this fall/next spring to outside studs. We are very excited and have started a waitlist for these upcoming litters.

I would love to answer further questions, find out more about your Dobies, and talk about what you are looking for in a new puppy. I can be reached anytime via call/text or email.

Sincerely,

Nichole
