Colter European Doberman Stud trip to Florida!

1/26/2022

Traveled down to Gainesville Florida for an artificial insemination!
We had been talking to the European Doberman Gemma’s mom for several months planning for her breeding. After doing progesterone testing on Gemma the date was set for the AI and it was at the University of Florida Veterinary School! Gainesville with stops is about 6 hours from us, so Colter and I were pulling out of the driveway at 5am.
Traffic was really light which made for easy driving. We’ve done road trips with quite a few European Dobermans (and other breeds too), and I can confidently say Colter is by far the best road trip buddy I’ve ever had. He doesn’t whine or harass you while you’re driving, just chills out in the back and sleeps in the funniest positions imaginable. He’s also excellent off leash, which contributes to his A+ road trip buddy status. Being able to find a great spot and let him run around and potty without having to have him on leash makes it so much more enjoyable (watch out for a learning center post soon about road tripping with your Doberman and finding great spots to stop tips!).

After a few stops we get to the Veterinary teaching clinic and it is huge! The specialist building alone was three stories tall, biggest vet by far Colter’s ever seen, and he’s been to Auburn, and Blue pearl specialists here in Georgia.
It was so great to meet Gemma and her parents after months of talking! It’s being able to work together with such kind and warm people that make breeding Dobermans so worth it. Very very seldom to we meet another Doberman breeder or Doberman owner that are a pleasure to work or talk with.
Being a teaching hospital they did a very thorough checkup of Colter, even checked his prostate. The veterinary technician was kind of humorless. He said that Colter had a good amount of prostate fluid spray out when they checked it. I told him that I bet the fluid came from his prostate and he didn’t really respond.
We also met a few interesting cases! Met a Boston terrier breeder with two full buggies of Boston puppies! They were there for hearing and eye checks, as well as other health testing before going home.

Also met an exceptionally kind Daschund owner. She was there with her male and female Daschund. He female was getting a checkup on her back leg. She had developed severely roached back legs that required surgery to fix, or she would eventually become paralyzed. The veterinarian had to break the leg, and adjust the angle of the leg (I’m simplifying), and then set it with pins and a cast. The poor baby had to have this done on both back legs. While we were waiting the Daschund was brought and the owner got great news that everything looked great on her. She was on her second leg surgery and was getting a follow-up exam done.
Soon after Colter was brought out, we said our goodbyes and started the journey back home!

Doing Dobermans Full Time

1/6/2022

Very pleased to say that our plans a few years in the making have finally come to fruition. I've left my job managing a 300+ occupancy dog boarding facility to breed dobermans full time, and do light boarding from home! We're so excited to be able to dedicate full time to the breed we love and that has given us so much joy. Thank you so much to all of our past and future clients that make this dream possible. We're so excited for the future and appreciate all the support!
