The Dangers of Shock Collars
Shock collars are becoming more popular, especially by some major training companies. Shock collar proponents extol their virtues, and say how they'll produce fantastic results with little downside. This is an extremely unfortunate development, that is particularly dangerous for breeds like the Doberman Pinscher.
Shock collars are a tool that should only EVER be used by professionals with decades of training experience, and in very specific circumstances. Other than that, shock collars should not be used, especially for specific, sensitive breeds. To say it even more clearly, if you are not a professional dog trainer with a decade of training experience with dobermans specifically, you should not use shock collars as a training tool. Even then, they're often misused and abused to the extreme detriment of the dog.
Shock collars RUIN dogs. Especially when used with puppies. If you are an exaserbated dog owner that has raised a puppy, and is thinking of turning to shock collars due to bad behaviors, you have no one but yourself to blame. You have failed your puppy, and are going to ruin the dog by turning to a device that forces the dog to obey through PAIN and FEAR.
Shock Collars WILL make your become defensively aggressive, fearful, unpredictable, among many other dangerous behaviors. Instead of having a dog that isn't crate trained or digs or some other simple problem, you know have a dog that is aggressive and reactive (a dog that you cannot live with safely). For this reason we have it in our contract that our puppy owners agree to never use shock collars, unless they have specific, written permission from Von Hohenhalla European Dobermans. Any common problem that a shock would be tried to use to correct, will not arise if you follow our puppy preparation instructions, especially reading and following book by Ian Dunbar After Getting Your Puppy. We 100% gauruntee that if you read his book (which the link contains a FREE online copy of), and follow his advice, you will never had to use a shock collar.
Shock collars RUIN dogs and puppies. If you use one, you will exacerbate existing problems, and create new, dangerous problems. DO NOT USE SHOCK COLLARS.
