Adventure to Tallulah Gorge & Lake Tugaloo

8/25/2016

This is our first summer in Georgia and we have been so surprised by the level of heat and humidity! In the evenings, we love taking the dogs on our local hiking trails and we have been wanting to explore more of the state, but the heat has made it such a challenge! We were finally able to have an official all-day adventure this past Tuesday when the temperature was bearable!

We woke up early, packed the car, got our "girls" ready (Ana, Vella, and Jezy), and traveled to Northeastern Georgia to find some beauty and have some fun! The boys (Rudy, Gus, and Adonis) were dropped off for a fun day at daycare where they were able to socialize with other dogs!

Tallulah Gorge State Park

Our first stop was the Tallulah Gorge State Park! We chose to do the small one mile hike to "Inspiration Point" and we were not disappointed with the destination! It was such a beautiful view of the gorge! Everywhere we looked was full of so much greenery, fresh running water, and even some birds! The breeze was also lovely!

This was the first time Ana & Vella had been on a formal hike and they loved it! They did a great job keeping up and following Jezy! There were so many different sights and smells and the pups were thrilled with their new surroundings! Since the park was empty, we were even able to work on some off leash training and recall!

Jezy is our favorite hiking partner! She is always ready to go, enjoys any distance, loves seeing and experiencing new places, and is great when off-leash opportunities arise. On this trip, she was a good momma and helped us teach her pups how to properly hike!
At the top, Ana & Vella were able to experience heights for the first time as they safely were held by their daddy to look over into the beautiful gorge!
We took a little snack and water brake at the top while we all enjoyed the view. Vella decided that feeling, smelling, and seeing the light sand didn't allow her to get the whole experience, so she made the mistake of tasting some which made us laugh.

Ana and Vella were lovely hiking girls on the way down and were ready for a nap by the time we reached the car. We are so proud of them!

Overall, Ana and Vella were very brave, adventurous, curious, and enthusiastic about the whole experience and we all had a marvelous time hiking!

Lake Tugaloo

Lake Tugaloo, Georgia
We were disappointed that Tallulah Gorge State Park does not allow dogs along the beach or in the water. We really wanted Ana and Vella to experience water for the first time. so we looked for a place close by and found Lake Tugaloo!

When Jezy was young, we took her to play in the water and she has loved swimming and playing water-fetch ever since! We wanted Ana & Vella to have the same positive experience at a young age!

When we arrived, we were the only ones at the lake, so let all the girls off leash to explore!

Logan quickly got in the water and started playing fetch with Jezy while I watched over Ana and Vella on the shore.

Jezy was so excited to play fetch, cool off, and splash around! Ana & Vella took everything in and decided that they would try the water out too!

Ana & Vella were fascinated watching Jezy swim and hearing daddy calling for them!

We weren't expecting Ana and Vella to be so enthusiastic for their first time in the water! But they quickly got soaked and we took off their hats so they could continue to play and get soaking wet!

Later, Logan and Jezy found a dock to jump off while Ana and Vella had a great time playing in the grass! These sisters sure love chasing one another!

I cannot believe how fearless our two girls are! They have exceeded our expectations in every way possible! We are so in love with them that we cannot stand it! They were absolutely perfect puppies for our adventure day!

We had such a great day with so many new experiences for both us and the girls! We were all very tired and had a quiet and peaceful drive home. We were all very happy to take a late-afternoon nap when we got home! We have added Lake Tugaloo to our "List of Great Places" and cannot wait to go back with the girls and Rudy!
